With a background that spans grassroots community development to corporate ESG strategy, she brings a systems-thinking approach to solving sustainability challenges. Santhosh Jayaram on Sustainability Reporting: The New Bottleneck to Ease of Doing Business

Global regulators are rolling back sustainability reporting norms in the name of easing business, with India and the EU introducing major dilutions. Critics argue these rollbacks prioritize convenience over accountability, despite many corporates being ready to comply. Concerns include data collection burden and unclear ROI, but surveys show companies still value ESG disclosures. Rather than discarding sustainability reporting, the focus should be on improving standards and capacities—not undermining them.

Santhosh Jayaram is a leading sustainability and ESG expert, currently Partner at KPMG India heading Sustainability & CSR Advisory. He has over 20 years of experience across climate change, ESG reporting, green finance, and sustainable development. An advisor to global standards like GRI and AA1000, he frequently speaks at national and international forums. He also serves as Adjunct Professor at Amrita University and holds advanced degrees from IIT Mumbai and UC Berkeley.
